12 Mar 2018 – A group of students under TITAS subject has executed a project to produce compost fertilizer from food waste collected from cafeteria at UMP. The project, led by first year student, Navinash has used Bokashi method to produce the compost fertilizer. The objective of this project is to educate students the importance of composting food waste at home at also at hostel.
OSHMO, in collaboration with UMP Holdings have provided assistance to the students to facilitate their project. The students have fermented the materials for two weeks in the bin and another two weeks in the soil.
At the end of the project, the students have succeeded in producing the compost. As an indicator, the basil plant has been grown in the soil. At the end of the project, the students understood that composting bring lots of benefit to them economically and environmentally.
