OSH INTERVENTION COURSE SERIES 3 2016

On 18 November 2016, OSHMO organized OSH intervention course series 3 2016 in line with the OSHMO intervention campaign. The course was conducted specially for new members of staff as well as members of staff who had no exposure to aspects of occupational safety and health. Training was held at BPB Pekan Campus Training Room.

INDUCTION COURSE FOR CONTRACTORS/ KURSUS INDUKSI KONTRAKTOR (KESKO) SERIES 3/2016

UMP Pekan, 16 November 2016: Occupational Safety and Health Management Office (OSHMO) UMP organized the third of series of Induction Course for Contractors or Kursus Induksi Pengurusan Kontraktor (KesKo) Program held at BPB UMP Pekan Campus Training Room. The program was made compulsory for all contractors/vendors registered with UMP before they could begin their work as contracted. On this day, a total of 30 contractors/vendors providing various services successfully attended the course. The contractors/vendors were exposed to basic knowledge on occupational safety and heatlth to ensure safe and health work culture can be implemented. This program would be organized from time to time in order to ensure the participation of all registered contractors/vendors.

FIRE FIGHTING COURSE FOR THE SECURITY DIVISION STAFF

2-3 November 2016: OSHMO organized a special Fire Fighting Course for the members of staff from the Security Division of UMP who had been appointed as first responders at UMP. A total of 30 members of staff from the Security Division of UMP from Gambang Campus and Pekan Capmus attended the training. The course was held at BPB Pekan Campus Training Room and the Library Training Room at Gambang Campus.

BENCHMARKING VISIT BY UTP DELEGATES TO UMP

On 12 October 2016, Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Department of UTP delegates paid a benchmarking visit to the Occupational Safety and Health Management Office (OSHMO) of UMP. The aim of the visit was to share views and experience in managing aspects of ocuupational safety and health of staff at the university. The UTP delegates were received by OSHMO staff led by the Director of OSHMO UMP, Mr Muhammad Hairynizam Bin Muhd Taib.

FIRE DRILL AT TTI

On 22 September 2016, Technology and Innovation Park or Taman Teknologi dan Inovasi (TTI) conducted a fire drill exercise which involved various faculties and departments. This exercise was an annual event planned to enhance the efficiency of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) members.

FIRE DRILL AT PTMK

On 12 August 2016, Pusat Teknologi Maklumat & Komunikasi (PTMK) or the Information Communication & Technology Centre (ICT) and BPB conducted a fire drill exercise for the occupants of the entire ICT block. This was the first fire drill exercise since ICT moved to the building in January 2016. Conratulations to ICT and BPB for implementing what had been planned.

BEHAVIOURAL-BASED FORKLIFT SAFETY OPERATION TRAINING

29-30 August 2016: OSHMO organized a special course on Behavioral-based Forklift Safety Operation for laboratory forklift operators.A total of 20 laboratory staff members from various faculties attended the training. The course was held at Tun Teja Training Room in UMP Gambang Campus.

OSH IN SCHOOL INCULCATE AWARENESS ON ASPECTS OF SAFETY AND HEALTH

Kuantan, 27 August – Occupational Safety and Health Management Office (OSHMO) UMP organized ‘OSH in School’ Program in collaboration with Sekolah Menengah Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (SEMSAS) Kuantan in its effort to share knowledge with the community in order to inculcate awareness on occupational safety and health (OSH). In line with Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) “Communitising Technology” slogan, the community service program was able to educate the young generation on aspects of safety within the school environment.

According to the Director of OSHMO UMP Mr Muhammad Hairynizam Muhd Taib, such a program was one of the initiatives by UMP through OSHMO to take on the responsibility of developing and enhancing awareness on OSH collaboratively with the school management of SEMSAS. “Such OSH program would enable the sharing of knowledge and technology applicable to the school in order to esnure a safe and healthy ensvironment at school,” he said. He also added that apart from students, teachers and members of staff at the school were also involved in helping the school to implement planning of OSH risk management in order to provide an accident-free environment for students, teachers and staff at the school.

Meanwhile, the head of the program Mr Ahmad Harris Abd Hamid said that ‘OSH in School’ program was able to cultivate the safety culture as outlined in the 2016-2020 Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan or Pelan Induk Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan Malaysia 2016-2020. Various exciting activities such as Hazard Hunt, Safety Games and fire prevention demonstration involving students were held.

One SEMSAS student Nurul Syafiqah Zulkifli, aged 13, remarked that the exposure during ‘OSH in School’ program was exciting and helped to aid the understanding of the safety measures that should be adopted. For another student, Syed Ahmad Nashril Izzat Syed Adnan, the presence of UMP significantly contributed to new knowledge and admitted that his friends felt enthusiastic with the creative and exciting games. This OSH program received cooperation from the faculties of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering or Fakulti Kejuruteraan Kimia dan Sumber Asli (FKKSA) and Engineering Technology or Fakulti Teknologi Kejuruteraan (FTEK) including Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Practitioners as well as UMP alumni members in promoting OSH programs to the community outside of UMP.

SAFETY COMMITTEE TRAINING 2016

On 17 August 2016, OSHMO organized Safety Committee Course 2016 series in conjunction with the appointment of new OSH coordinators representing their respective responsibility centres or pusat tanggungjawab (PTJs). The course was customized for the appointed OSH coordinators from the respective PTJs. The course was held at Tun Teja Training Room in UMP Gambang Campus.

BENCHMARKING VISIT TO UTP

On 19 August 2016, OSHMO staff and several members of the UMP Occupational Safety and Health Committee visited Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Department of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP). The aim of the visit was to share views and experiences in managing aspects of occupational safety and health at the university. OSHMO delegates were received by HSE UTP staff led by Mr Suhaidi bin Mustafa, the Manager of the HSE Depatment.
